Taormina, Sicily and view of Giardini di Naxos

The last picture is actually a close up of the view of Mt. Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe, that we saw from Taormina. Taormina is a beautiful old medieval town on the hills that rush from Mt. Etna to the sea. We were actually lodging at the Gardens of Naxos, a smaller town edged in a bay next to Taormina, which is also one if not the oldest Greek colony during 200* b.c. I loved Taormina and although it was quite touristy I still enjoyed its narrow and windy roads throughout the old town, the balconies, the old churches standing up close to the buildings, the amazing open piazzas that you came up to quite unexpectedly, and of course the secret little stairs that bring to other little lookouts. The first picture is of the famous greek ampitheatre at Taormina which they still use for concerts, as they were in fact getting ready for one the day we visit. The second picture is a view from my favorite piazza at the entrance in one of the main gates of Taormina. The view is of the very bay of Giardini di Naxos were for a whole week we would go bathe and bask in the sun!
